  • 1. Does the product have a built-in battery back-up or similar to provide the power to send a text message when power has failed?

    Most of iSocket Smart Sockets that support a power failure alert feature and all professional products from iSocket Smart Home can send a power outage alert after a power failure. Please check the Technical Specification on the webpage of each individual product. Watch video on our YouTube channel about power failure features of iSocket.
  • 2. Which models support the power failure notification feature?

    The power failure notification feature is now available on all iSocket models except the iSocket EcoSwitch. Please take a look at the comparision table.
  • 3. Can the iSocket alert you when power comes back on?

    Yes, iSocket sends alerts about both power failure and power restore, to up to 10 numbers.
  • 4. Will iSocket text more than one number if there's a power cut?

    It will text to up to 10 numbers. We use a top quality li-ion battery that is sufficient to power a mobile module and send a power cut alert to several numbers, even after a break in the mobile network. We avoid using super-capacitors (as cheaper products do), because these are not reliable enough for the above process.
  • 5. How long after a power failure will the unit operate from its built-in battery?

    Please note, that iSocket only needs a battery for the purpose of informing you about a power outage in your electric network (AC network). If power has failed, you do not have electricity in your house and therefore you cannot do anything with electric appliances. So there is no reason for iSocket to continue to work from a battery. As soon as iSocket has sent a message about a power failure, it goes to shut-down. After the power is restored it will send messages again. This logic is valid for some products from the iSocket Smart Sockets family, which support the iSocket® Power Notifier feature. Professional products for integrators from iSocket Smart Home family have more options after a power failure. For example, iSocket Smart Relay can continue monitoring a temperature after a power failure for a few hours and report temperature measurements to your cell phone. All iSockets that support the iSocket® Power Notifier feature have a top quality re-chargeable li-ion battery that is sufficient to power a module and send a power outage alert to your cell phone even if there was a break in the network. iSocket will wait for a signal and will then send a message. We do not use super-capacitors as the cheap products of our competitors do, because super-capacitors may not provide enough power and manage a situation when the mobile network has been lost.   • 6. Is there a delay between power failure and sending a message to a phone?

    iSocket will send a power failure message immediately after it detects that supply to it has been lost. There could be some latency due to capacitors, etc, but in most cases power outages longer than 1 second will be reported. Professional iSocket® Smart Software is designed to send both power failure and power restore messages no matter what the delay was between these two events. It means that even if power has been restored in the same second that it failed and the unit had not even shut down yet, you will receive both messages. This helps to understand that there has been a short power failure, but now there is power in your network again.
  • 7. What happens with the settings of the device when the power supply fails?

    All your personal settings remain on the device after a power failure. You do not require to configure anything special to save your settings after power outage. The command POWERSTATE is designed only to manage the state of the relay after power interruption. Please read the User Manual for the device to understand how it works. This command has no interaction with other settings. Other settings, such as a list of phone numbers, password, thermostat settings and so on, remain the same no matter what happens with the power. They are not affected by power and the battery is not required to save these settings, because they are stored on non-volatile memory. Date and time settings are, however, affected by power interruption. To save the date and time iSocket has a built-in battery. This feature is available only on the models that support a scheduler, because date and time are a feature mainly required for the scheduler function to work.   • 8. Can iSocket call me when the power fails?

    This feature is only supported for our new model - iSocket 3G. You may configure iSocket 3G to alert you by call in the event of a power outage.
  • 9. Is there any way to detect failure of appliance connected to iSocket?

    We recommend using the so-called secondary factor: Let's imagine you want to control the operation of a water pump and be notified when it has broken down. In this case you may install a pressure sensor in the line to which pump provides the fluid and tie this sensor together with the input of the iSocket. When the pump stops working, the pressure sensor will signal this.
  • 10. I do not receive power failure and power restore messages. What should I do?

    Please check the following:

    1) Make sure that the unit has been plugged to a wall socket for at least 15 hours to charge the battery inside.

    2) Make sure a number is installed for the alert. Depending on the product, you may check this with the command ALERTNUMBER? or ALERTNUMBERS. If a number is not installed, depending on the model you can install it either by the command ALERTME or ALERTNUMBER+yournumber. See user manual for your product to find the correct commands.

    3) Make sure that the number is in the international format (means that is starts from, for example, “1” for USA or “44” for the UK).

    4) Make sure that the unit is logged on to the mobile network, for example, you can execute any other commands and receive responses. Try the command “ON” and see if you receive a response.

    5) When all the above have been checked, try the following test: Remove the unit from the wall socket and check what happens with the blue and green indicators. The blue indicator should continue blinking and the green indicator should continue to be lit for the next 5-10 seconds before it goes out. This test shows that the battery is charged. If the indicators go out immediately when you remove the unit from the wall socket, then there is a problem with the battery (provided that the SIM card is installed and all above tests were successful). Contact us if you are experiencing incorrect function.

    6) If all the above 5 tests were successful and you still do not receive messages, then there could be something wrong with the operator, for example, they cannot deliver messages to you. Contact our support team and provide us with the result of test number 2 above. In order to better be able to help you, a video showing test №5 would also be appreciated.
  • 11. I receive a power restore message, but no power failure message. What to check?

    Please see question №10. If you only receive power restore messages then the most probable reason is that the battery is not charged. If you continue to have problems, please provide the results of test №2 and №5 (from question №10) when you contact our support team. In order to better be able to help you, a video with test №5 would also be appreciated.
  • 12. I do not always receive power loss notifications. Sometimes I get them, sometimes not. Why?

    The most probable reason is a weak battery. Please check questions №10 and №10 which describe how to test it. It can be also due to your operator losing messages along the way (for example, due to it being stuck in a mobile pool of operators). Contact us and provide result of test 2 and 5 described in question №10.
  • 13. I have configured several numbers for power failure alerting and I do not always receive power cut alerts. Why?

    If you have several numbers installed for power cut alerts and some numbers are wrong it may be that the unit is busy sending power failure alerts to wrong numbers (it makes 3 attempts) and if the battery is weak it may not send to some of the good numbers. Please charge the battery and remove any possible wrong numbers from the list. See test 5 in question №10 about battery test. Another reason could be that your operator cannot handle the delivery of a number of messages in succession, due to some limitations or restriction. iSocket sends power cut alerts to the mobile network and then it is up to the mobile operator to deliver them to you. Please test with another operator to see if you have problems with sending to several numbers.
  • 14. I want to detect a power failure outdoors (fish pond, weather metering station, irrigation system). How do I install iSocket outdoors?

    Please note, iSocket can only be used indoors, however ways can be found to get around this. In most cases an outdoor appliance is powered from an indoor electric supply and in some cases you may even have an indoor outlet connected to the same network. If you only need to detect a power outage and do not need to switch your outdoor equipment remotely, then you could plug the iSocket to the indoor outlet. Since the electric network is the same and connected in parallel, when the power fails it will fail on this indoor outlet as well. iSocket will detect this and you will get a power failure notification. You may consult with a local electrician about how your system is wired and he could probably help you with the installation. If your outdoor equipment has a plug that can be routed from inside the premises then you may consider doing that and move the iSocket indoors.

    Another option is to use special insulated boxes which allow indoor equipment to be used outside, but please note that temperature and humidity conditions must be kept in mind - to merely protect against rain/snow is not enough. See technical parameters of the devices in user manuals.

  • 15. I have a pump outdoors and I want to detect when the power supply to the pump is switched off due to a fuse in a cabinet. How can I do this?

    If your outdoor pump is wired directly to the indoor fuse cabinet through a breaker, we would recommend that you install an indoor outlet after the same breaker and plug the iSocket into this outlet. Thus when the breaker switches off, iSocket will detect it, because power in the parallel outlet will also switch off. You may even have an indoor outlet in your house – please ask your local electrician. Check question №14 for more information.
  • 16. I want to power on the device only for the night and use it as security system. What will happen with the settings if I disconnect the device in the daytime and reconnect it for the night?

    Settings will remain the same, because they are stored in non-volatile memory. Instead of switching the device for daytime we would recommend you use the scheduler for your purposes. You may configure it to enable the activation of the alarm function at night only. Please check the User Manual for the device you have purchased.
